A Little Bit of Stitch and Sparkle

Watch out for Rob tomorrow, who will be bringing these pretty Sparkle Stitch Cards. This is basically embroidery - but on cards. You may have seen this technique before, it's very pretty, effective, yet easy.

The kits have been designed so the stitch count is done for you, to get a perfect result. I don't generally follow instructions, but on this occasion, I made sure I read them properly - and did get a perfect result first time.

Start by placing your selected pattern on the central panel of your 3 fold card;

There is a pin in the kit which you can use to pierce the holes from the pattern, through the card. I actually had an old tool from X-cut, which worked perfectly, but you can see where I have been experimenting with different tools - and one was just to thick:

Thankfully, this didn't make any difference when I did my stitching. Now, follow the pattern to do your stitches. There is plenty of thread in the kit to complete your project.

The kit has lots of embellishments to finish your card, and idea's of how you can decorate it. I used the flowers in the centre, but then added little dots of glitter glue here and there (here and everywhere).

Why not try using your pattern again, but this time on a light shade - the light passing through the image looks so effective. Just neaten the ends of the thread behind the image, and you will get an incredible result. Try using different threads, and different embellishments. I think this would look beautiful framed.

Have fun, and do join Rob at 10am, 2pm and 5pm.

Meet the Presenter - Matt MacNamara

1.      How did you first get introduced to crafts? I’ve always loved craft and had such great respect for anyone who makes and creates crafty items. At craft fairs it is always me that holds up everyone else in the group while I chat to the people on the stalls about what they have made. My wife Karen, or Mrs M, is very crafty too. She’s into the classic decoupage, upcycling old boxes and furniture. She also makes her own jewellery and I sometimes help her run the stalls at craft fairs.. 2.      What have been your highlights so far on Hochanda? We have a very talented pool of guests, so there is always something so creative going on in the studio, so honestly, every day is highlight. I’ve also had the good fortune to have tried several crafts for the first time ever. It’s pleasantly surprising to discover that to be a good crafter you don’t necessarily have to be artistic, you just need to be imaginative and creative. We all have our own...

Barbara Gray - Giveaway

Who caught the wonderful demonstrations from Barbara Gray on Sunday, and again yesterday?  Barbara inspired us all, as ever, and we had some busy shows.  Barbara even jumped onto the phones to help with a customer query!  That's the beauty of having our customer services and order line in house - and brilliant guests who are happy to have a natter to our callers. Barbara has also, generously, donated one of the pieces from the show, as a giveaway on todays blog post. Isn't it beautiful.   If you would like a chance to win this masterpiece, then all you need to do is leave a comment on this post, and someone will be picked at random tomorrow evening.
