Snowflake meets Mica Flake!

Good afternoon, and how is everyone today.  Today, after a raid of the craft samples, I decided to have a experiment with MDF again, but this time I have picked the snowflakes.  I really like these, they make wonderful gifts, decorations or gift tags.  And MDF will allow you to use any type of paint, ink, paper - it allows for experimentation.

If you would like to get hold of the MDF kits I am using, just follow this link:

MDF Blanks

I began with covering my MDF with Gesso.  I sponged it on, making sure I actually got bubbles in the work.  When I heat set it, it gave me some lovely texture:

You may require a few layers of gesso to get a full coverage.  I then applied a little of the Cosmic Shimmer Colour Cloud Blending Ink.  I sponged a little onto the edges of the snowflake.  I literally "bounced" the sponge onto the MDF, so I achieved a feathered finish at the edges.  Blast it with the heat gun, then bounce some of the gesso over the top of the blue, this makes the ink blend in beautifully:

Looks pretty already.  Now, we want to make that texture pop, so take a gilding wax, and just apply a little over the top of your snowflake.  Do not work this into the gesso - you want it to just hit the top of the gesso, so it really emphasises the detail:

You can really see the sheen, but it is actually quite subtle.  I would recommend the Pearl Moon, which you can get here:

I used the Cosmic Shimmer PVA on the edges of the flake, apply "blobs" of glue, and then sprinkle mica flakes,  I then applied some of the Cosmic Shimmer Diamond Snow - I made sure I worked this in so it sticks to any of the patches of glue which I missed with the mica flake.  I love the Diamond Snow, as it's really subtle.  Want some?  Follow the link:

The snow looks fluffy doesn't it!

I used the delicate word stamps from Stamp Addicts, and the ink from the colour blends.  For the stamps, just check this link:

To finish my snowflake, I just covered it with glossy accents.  Allow it to dry flat, before doing the second side:

Alternatively, add some gems - the choice is yours:

This is illustrated in the picture. Repeat this process with the other two star strips. Step 3. Assemble the three paper star strips over and under each other, forming three double le
