How to make your own choker style necklace with Beadhouse

classic leather necklace by Beadhouse at HochandaHematine bead leather necklace at Hochanda crafts

If you caught our debut show on Hochanda, we thought you may like some ideas of what designs can be made from the packs we featured.

Amongst the goodies available are three leather bundles, noodle bead packs including CZ rondels and a fabulous hematine bead 10 strand pack. We have designed this classic leather necklace using a combination of items from this show and we want to share the design with you. It’s perfect for that day-into-evening look.

1  Firstly take one of the 1 metre lengths of leather and fold in half.

2  Then attach a crimp and ring to each end of the leather. Crimp it in the middle with pliers to hold it securely in place.

3    Take a headpin and snip off the head with snips/flush cutters to create a piece of wire. Use the wrapped loop technique* to turn a loop in one end of the wire, before completing the wrapped loop, attach to the crimp & ring and then finish turning the wrapped loop.

4  Add any combination of two or three hematine beads, mixing in the Rhinestone rondels to create your desired design, leaving enough room to create another wrapped loop on the opposite end of the wire.

*Wrapped loop technique: Thread your bead(s) on to a headpin and bend the headpin to a 90 degree angle. Using a pair of pliers or by hand take the end of the wire and wrap around the round nose pliers and cross underneath to create a loop but at this point thread through the crimp and ring loop before completing the loop. Reposition the pliers to take hold of the loop. Using another set of pliers start to wrap the wire around the stem, forming a nice tight coil. When the coil reaches the top of the bead, snip off the excess wire with flush cutters.

5       Finish this section with a wrapped loop

6       Create another 2 sections linking each one to the previously attached section.

7       Finish by creating a single bead drop by adding a bead to a headpin and attaching to the last attached section using the wrapped loop technique again.

8       Repeat steps 3-7 on the other end of the leather

9       This is a choker style necklace so loop the leather around your neck and pass both ends through the loop. The leather can be adjusted so one end sits lower than the other.

And there you have it, your very own Leather Lariat Necklace!

Double over each of the three paper star strips and cut all the ends at an angle. Put a star strip around another star strip and fold it tightly three times around this star strip. This is illustrated in the picture. Repeat this process with the other two star strips. Step 3. Assemble the three paper star strips over and under each other, forming three double le
